SUMMER SCHOOL OF ECONOMIC POLICY

This project was initiated in 1998, triggered by the need to provide education about market economy and contemporary economic trends that were excluded in the formal system of education at the time. The SSEP’s curriculum includes issues of macroeconomic policy, banking and tax systems, transition and privatization, international politics and globalization, and regional and European integrations. The School is valued for prime quality of lecturers (ministerial level policy-makers and distinguished professors from the country and abroad) and carefully selected outstanding participants, of which the alumni are already young leaders and policy-makers. The School, of which there has been 9 so far, has grown into a regional programme and one of the Institute’s “trade-mark” projects.

THE ABC OF EUROPEAN UNION

This School, prepared in cooperation with the Government of Serbia Integration Office, aims to provide supplementary education in EU issues for various target groups so as to prepare them to more effectively tackle the challenges the country is facing on its way to the EU. The pilot project was designed for young officials from the State Union and Republic administration. There are currently available several focused modules of the School (i.e. School for Members of Parliament, Administration, etc).

COURSE ON “INTRODUCTION TO POVERTY MEASUREMENT AND ANALYSYS”

ESPI Institute in cooperation with the World Bank Institute organized a Course on „Introduction to Poverty Measurement and Analysis“ from June 19 until June 28, 2006. The Course has been organized within the World Bank regional support programme intended for the institutions in Serbia. It has been carried out on the basis of the actual activities anticipated by the Poverty Analysis and Impact Evaluation Programme. Methodologically, the concept of the Course has been designed in such a way as to get the participants acquainted with the basic definitions of the poverty and inequality indicators. In the later stages of the Course they have learned about the problems caused by usage of the actual data. The lectures were, therefore, followed by the practical examples enabling the participants thus to take part themselves in calculating and analyzing poverty indicators by using the micro data of the Household Budget Survey in Serbia. The beginners Course on „ Introduction to Poverty Measurement and Analysis“ has been organized for the statisticians from the Republican Statistical Office and decision makers from the PIU of the Poverty Reduction Strategy in the Republic of Serbia. There were 11 participants that attended the Course which will enable them to implement acquired knowledge in their further work.
